I've read some really great articles about multifuel stoves and their applications, not just for the home, but also for pubs and business. I think this could be the way forward. Check them out at ezinearticles.com. Keep the Home Fires Burning!

Thanks for posting Sandy! Be sure to check out the new 2009 blog for this years mostly boring bits of day to day life here in the south.

We prefer the craft and Renaissance fair(e)s and flea markets too but living where we do most times find it difficult to make it to them and still turn a profit. Though there are a lot of things we don't like about E-bay, it does make it possible to live in the country and still make some kind of living while trying to get back to a more natural (or basic/back to the land) lifestyle.

We liked the old trailer too but with the amount of work necessary to make it into one we could use with our existing tow vehicle it was just not to be. I learned a lot from my mistakes and hope the one coming along (slowly) now will work out a lot better. Hoping to get back to working on it in another couple of weeks. Real life keeps getting in the way and all that... ;-)

Had a mildly productive day. Went in to work to start/finish hooking up all the machines. Had to get the teacher's machine going first--needed to have the master version of some of the software ready to go when I installed the client software. Had an annoying problem with the mouse (that we had the other day also) and finally figured out that having a Smartboard hooked up to the machine with no drivers/software for it was confusing the stew out of the machine. Unplugged the Smartboard, and the mouse worked right. Doh! One to remember....got the Smarboard software installed, and the master of the other, and then started with the client machines. First one wouldn't hook up to the master. Tried a second one, and changed the order of a couple of things, and IT wouldn't hook up either. Tried to update the software to the newest version, and our key wouldn't work on it. Uninstalled the software on all three machines, reinstalled the original version, and it worked. Not sure why (have a couple of ideas, which I will try out in a little bit) but I believe it will work now. Will be going back up there in a little bit, once I get an XP Pro install a little further down the line, and a butt in the oven for tonight.

The son brought a computer home the other day that one of his co-workers had discarded. It was one he built for his mother a few years ago, and he built her a better one and didn't want this one. I take handouts...Celeron 1.7 GHz, with 512 MB of RAM. No HD, two optical drives of which one was bad, and a valid XP Pro key. Nice case. Been running Xunbuntu on it, and have decided to set up one of my machines as an XP Pro machine for my Windoze box. I gotta have one (at least for now), so I may as well go Pro. It's booting from the install on the other side of the KVM--gotta get it updating before I go-that will take a while.

Happy New Year!

That "virus alert" heading is a real grabber to click on. I was almost afraid to, but one of my new year's resolutions is to be more careless, so here I am. Great post, by the way, and have a happy new year

Sounds kinda like my day. I did a little bit around the house, and made one Wally World trip (returned a seat cover that didn't fit and picked up some things) but mainly didn't do much, and enjoyed not doing it. Did browse a website I e-mailed you about--the guy builds model airplanes and turbojet/turboshaft engines. Pretty cool stuff.

Tomorrow I go back to the lab and try to finish it up--or at least make a large dent therein...

Had a stay-at-home day here. The wife and daughter got out some, but I stayed here and cleaned up my computer desk a little bit. Organized some paperwork a little better. Finally got Python loaded this evening and played with IDLE a little bit. I like it! It's been a while (QUITE a while) since I tried any programming, but the rust seems to scale off pretty easily, and I plan to try a few things once I get a little more WD-40 on the parts, so to speak. Tomorrow the wife and daughter are supposed to go to the movies with the wife's sister, so that should give me some time to play. I want to get PHP/MySQL going to, but one thing at a time..

Had the daughter's birthday party tonight--pizza and cake and ice cream, with a few friends of hers over. One staying the night. A rather low-key day altogether--I can stand it...

Had a busy weekend. Saturday was getting ready for the in-laws, and Sunday was more of the same and then having them over. Overall it went pretty well, the (seems like required by physical law) mother-in-law outburst didn't happen until right at the end, and I was lucky enough to be in the bathroom when it did. Didn't even know about it until I was told about it later. As usual, it came from so far out in left field ("America has attacked Israel! YES IT HAS!!!") that even shaking one's head is a futile evolution. Ah, evolution, ANOTHER thing to avoid...Other than that, it went pretty well. Ate the day and all energy up though.

Today is the daughter's birthday, so that will occupy us some. She is having friends over for pizza, ice cream and cake this evening, with games (Wii and such) to follow. Will be more fun than the in-laws, anyway. Not that I don't like the in-laws, but waiting for the inevitable explosion is wearing on the nerves. It doesn't bother me much any more, though--you can't argue with the weather and other natural events, and that is what it seems like. Oh, well....

I think it's time to go hit some leftovers for breakfast....

One note; different computers work with USB booting differently. If you have problems, try on a newer computer with a boot menu (usu F12)
